A short while after installing and building my first reference board I noticed the icons of Bitwig Studio and Synergy had changed to the PureRef icon. Both applications may have been open when installing it.

I like using PureRef, until it started replacing my Windows 10 app icons with its own, even when I uninstalled PureRef. This issue has not been addressed since 2018. I'm turning back to using my old image editing software instead. Thanks PureRef.

We are sorry to hear that, but we understand. We know this issue is very frustrating, it is frustrating for us too. We have been trying to solve this issue for a long time, unsuccessfully, but in the hopes of solving it eventually, here is the latest update on what we know and have tried:

We have found:
- Most people experiencing the issue also has Adobe
Acrobat and/or Evernote installed, and that it has been happening to their icons for a long time.(Sometimes the Paint3D, Safari and Corel Photopaint icons are involved too)
- There is a chance it is a Windows 10 bug since it has been going on for so long (Earliest we've found so far is 2015) and the other apps still seem to have the issue unresolved as well.
- It seems to happen to a small amount of people, and we are not able to reproduce it ourselves for testing, or understand what the requirements are for it happening. Any insight on any potential pattern is very appreciated!

What we have tried:
- Digging in the registry, comparing individual icon files of several programs to see if there's any correlation, so far we have found none.
- We have looked through the forums on the other apps' websites, and tried some of their (temp) solutions with people experiencing the issue, over mail (thank you so much!) but none seem to have been permanently fixed and the problem shows up again after updating.

We are still trying to figure this out, so any help or insight is valuable to us. The next step would be to find out the prerequisites on when and why it happens, and why these particular apps.

Thanks for your efforts to solve this issue. I know it's a very very minor one, and maybe I'm just too obsessive-compulsive even down to the appearance of icons in my computer.

I know you are constantly making PureRef a very valuable application especially for people like me who work with images.

I have actually re-installed PureRef, not on my main work computer, but on another one, after I wrote my comment above.

I'm still going to use PureRef because it's a very good solution in the creative process.

For me it replaced the icons for Bitwig Studio and Synergy (virtual KVM)
