Firstly I would like to thank you for adding the "Parent items" command, it made using the hierarchy smoother.
Secondly I'm aware that auto-parenting can interfere with the workflow of some users - I saw you moved
the "Auto parent pasted notes" behavior to a setting which is off by default.
That's why I propose the following as a setting or a mode to toggle on and off.
The behavior I would like is following:
#1 when you paste an image from clipboard while another object is selected, the newly pasted image becomes a child of the selected object (note/image/drawing/etc)
#2 when you create a new note with ctrl+N while another object is selected, the new note becomes a child of the selected object (note/image/drawing/etc)
#3 when you create a new drawing while another object is selected, the new drawing becomes a child of the selected object (note/image/drawing/etc)
#4 when you do #1 or #2 or #3 while no object is selected, the newly created object is added at the top level of the hierarchy
To clarify I mean all of the above to happen in the canvas area.
I think this would take away some friction from using the hierarchy if your project uses hierarchy extensively.
Right now I manage by using the "Parent items" command but the above would save 2 mouse clicks per each new item created and remove some friction
Anyone who wants to can call me lazy ;)
Thank you for the suggestion! Just so that we understand you correctly:
#1: Make auto parent setting work for all item types
#2-3: This is how it should be working already, but only if a group or image is selected. Do you want it to work for any selected item type?
#4: The current behavior
The reason why the auto parenting is off by default is because it only confused most people, but it also might give us some room to make it more powerful for power users.
Yeah, exactly.
To make the behavior consistent for all item types just like it works when an image is selected.
I tend to use the program for organizing information and this setting would help me build the structure more naturally.
Thank you for taking my suggestion into consideration.
