I know i can get this by using Slideshow

but sometimes i like it ordered, and sometimes i like it random ,and using slideshow needs extra button presses that i'd just prefer to do with different keyboard shortcuts

for example

Next image - Right arrow shorcut
Next shuffle image (from selection) - Shift Right arrow shorcut
Next random image (from selection) - CTRL Right arrow shorcut

Something to this effect (or configurable by the user)
Could be also up arrow button, if it is not used by anything
UP - next random image
DOWN - previous random image, if we want to return to it (skipped by mistake)

Good idea.

Thank you for the suggestion! All the arrow shortcuts are currently used by stepping and depth ordering and arrange actions, but it could be an idea to just add the feature with no shortcut and you get to set it yourself?
Sounds good.

Three new actions:
Next random image
Next random (shuffle) image
Previous random image (both types?)

Is previous needed? Previous could always go back to the previous one, since if you want a random you can just go forward?
yes previous goes to the previous one and shouldnt be random

rather than needing new shortcuts it could also be a mode

normal mode (go to next / previous as usual/

Random mode (go to next random)

Random Shuffle (go to next random Selected)

In this manor u just need One shortcut or 2 max to switch the modes (or maybe a visual button that fades away like with the slideshow?)

Yes, that is another option worth exploring! Do you have any suggestion on where you would like to have this mode toggle accessible in that case?

Not exactly, I think. I'm not sure how to explain, so I'll show an example/usecase:

We're viewing images randomly very fast and by mistake we skip one that looked interesting. But now we can't get back to it, without the previous button.

(Because normal previous button goes to the previous image in the order the images are grouped, right? Anyway, you get what I mean from the example.)

We've been thinking a bit about this and your other post. Maybe the easiest way to get this would just be to add a setting to make the arrow keys behave the same as the slideshow? Or just add Slideshow Next and Slideshow Prev to the shortcut settings? Then you can set all the settings you want in the slideshow UI.
so basicly the order of the next/previous image would be defined by setting it in the slideshow?

That would be workable, but would necessitaye activating and deactivating slideshow each time to be able to change the setting

the benefit is that u dont need different shortcuts
The downside is needing to invoke the slideshow to be able to change it.....

wouldnt having a "random mode" based of selection be preferable?

However if u deem this way to be preferable i'd be happy to have it, as long as i just need to activate it in slideshow, and then just can select any number at will to get random order activated.

If none is selected, it would also be random of course. But when selecting some, random would refresh and start from there with a new random order.

also i'm confused as to your implementation of random in this case
.

there is true random where technically u could show the same image 3 times in a row, and simulated random where u show each images at least once.
I would advocate for the latter.

So if there are 10 image's, show each images in a random order, once, before looping. It is acceptable if the loop after has the same random order. Refreshes of random order see change upon changing the selection.

I hope you understand what i mean.
