Hi guys!
First of all, let me thank you for this awesome software!

I want to suggest a little thing to add. Sometimes it would be very helpful to know the source path of image (filtering refs/texture sets to send someone).
Is it possible to ad a pop-up line of text (like those win explorer does when hovering files) when cursor is over an image?

I support this suggestion. That would be very handy when you are comparing several similar local image files.

Now, the only way to determine what file it is each, is by CTRL+SHIFT+O on each one, (opening an file manager instance to the directoy containing the file)

We've just released a beta of PureRef 2.0 that improves the coordinate picker a bit to show the name of the image hovered using D + Left mouse button. We also added a Hierarchy view where you can see all items in a scene in a list and hover them to get a tooltip with info such as file path. You can download it on the download page if you want to give it a go!
