I wonder if there's a place for having a simple Selects or Favorites system, right clicking and marking an image as such. Images marked as Selects are indicated by a simple color bordered. Additionally, allow a user to grey out all other images thus bringing attention to only the selects (see mockup in link), and even create a sorting option that would be Sort Favorites which would just quickly grid-up all Favorited images into alignment like Sort Optimal.
