Windows users with a lot of applications open may have a crowded task bar so the width of each open app's portion gets smaller and smaller on the task bar.
Here's a screenshot of the part of my task bar being used for the three PureRef files I'm currently using while working:

Quickly switching to the one I want to see at the moment is made a little more difficult since the filenames are cropped.
With a few more open apps I won't be able to see the names at all and will have to guess or try to remember, or use alt+tab instead.
The PureRef icon to the left of each open PureRef file is more than enough to tell me it's a PureRef file - including "PureRef" seems to be completely overkill in this case, and is eating up valuable space.
Many multiple instance allowing apps omit their names from the task bar, such as browsers and Photoshop:
